The National Institute of Genetics (NIG) seeks to promote research excellence by offering a fully funded research fellowship to outstanding postdoctoral candidates who are pursuing their doctoral studies in genetics at Indian institutions of higher learning.
The recipient will be expected to pursue his/her own independent research project under the guidance of an NIG scientist, but will be expected to make use of facilities available at NIG’s headquarters in Bengaluru as well as those provided by other affiliated organizations, such as the Biotechnology Center for Genomic Sciences located in Chennai or the Physical Biology Laboratory set up by Dean Dinesh Kumar at Bangalore University.
The fellowship program is sponsored by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).
The fellowship program is sponsored by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). It seeks to promote international cooperation in science and technology, especially through partnerships with institutions worldwide. JSPS aims to promote research and education in Japan, as well as foster collaborations between its members and other organizations around the world.
The NIG Postdoctoral Fellowship Program supports young researchers who have been awarded a PhD degree or equivalent qualification at a university within one year before applying for this program. In addition to receiving financial support from JSPS, each participant will be assigned an adviser who will guide them throughout their stay at NIG.

The program aims to develop human resources with cutting-edge knowledge. The program is sponsored by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), an agency of Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). It is open to young researchers who have completed their Ph.D. or M.D./PhD degree in fields including genetics and molecular biology, cancer biology and immunology research related to gene therapy and clinical trials based on advances in these areas.
JSPS offers a two-year fellowship program at the National Institute of Genetics (NIG).
The National Institute of Genetics (NIG) is a government-affiliated research institution in Japan. It was founded in 1970 and has been providing excellent service to the Japanese scientific community for over 40 years. The institute has a staff of more than 800 individuals, including scientists who are working on various topics related to genetics and its applications.
In addition to its operations as an independent organization that conducts research projects, NIG also offers postdoctoral fellowships with financial support from JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science). The JSPS fellowship program aims to develop human resources with cutting-edge knowledge about various fields such as genomics and epigenetics through training programs that provide opportunities for young researchers who want to step into their careers as professional scientists or researchers by studying at NIG during their postdoctoral years (two years).
