The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing is proud to award $250,000 in scholarships each year to women passionate about computer science. The Foundation awards four different scholarship types: graduate, undergraduate, computing leadership and continuing education grants. All applicants must be current students or recent graduates at an accredited educational institution based in the United States or Canada.


The GHC Scholarship is awarded to women pursuing a computer science degree. It’s the largest scholarship program in the world, and it offers $10,000 toward your education. The GHC Scholarship Program is sponsored by Google and the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology (ABI).

The scholarship is open to female students currently enrolled at an accredited institution of higher learning with grades of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale who plan to pursue an undergraduate degree in computer science or related discipline as their first major at an accredited university/college; must be able to demonstrate financial need based on tuition, housing costs and living expenses; must not have received any other form of scholarship or financial aid during their academic career; must maintain full-time enrollment status throughout each academic year; must submit an essay about how technology has changed your life story or why you want to study computer science (maximum 500 words)

Eligibility and Criteria

The Grace Hopper Celebration Scholarship is open to women who are currently enrolled in college or university, or enrolled in graduate school. You must also be:

  • A woman by birth and/or gender identity (including trans women). Women are defined as those who identify as female, regardless of their assigned gender at birth. This includes anyone whose self-identification does not match the assigned sex on a government-issued identification document like a driver’s license or passport.   • An undergraduate student pursuing a degree related to computer science at an accredited postsecondary institution located within the United States or Canada during Fall 2020 through Spring 2021 academic terms (i.e., September 2019 through May 2022).

Scholarship Value and Benefits

The Grace Hopper Celebration Scholarship is worth $5,000. This scholarship is for women in STEM fields who have completed at least one year of college and are pursuing a degree in computer science, computer engineering or information technology.

To be eligible for this award, you must:

  • Be enrolled at an accredited institution that offers bachelor’s degrees in any field from any institution of higher education;
  • Submit an essay on why you wish to pursue a career in the computing field; and
  • Attend the annual Grace Hopper Celebration conference held each fall semester (September through December).

Application Dates

The application period for the Grace Hopper Celebration Scholarship is open August 1, 2022 and closes September 30, 2022.

Scholarship recipients will be announced December 31, 2022.

Apply for the Grace Hopper Celebration scholarship

The Grace Hopper Celebration Scholarship is an annual scholarship given to students who have shown exemplary academic achievement, leadership and service. To be eligible for this award, you must be a high school senior who will graduate in 2023 or earlier.

The GHC Scholarship Program is administered by the IEEE Foundation and its partners; it provides financial aid for full-time postsecondary study at a college or university outside of the US (or Canada). The program’s goal is to support talented women pursuing careers in science and technology through innovative programs that enhance their education as well as prepare them for tomorrow’s workforce.


There are several scholarship opportunities to choose from in the fields of computer science and mathematics. The Grace Hopper Celebration scholarship is one of them. The parameters of this scholarship include having a GPA above 3.5, being an alumni or current student at Indiana University Bloomington, and being a female junior or senior (full-time undergraduate student). You can apply before March 15th, but there is no guarantee that you will get it if you do not meet all requirements by then!
